Lawrence Stanley
Lawrence graduated from the Cardozo School of Law in 1980. Between 1980 and 1995, he worked in the music industry as general counsel to and director of business affairs for independent record labels (including Tommy Boy Records) and was counsel to various recording artists (including P.M. Dawn) and producers. In 1995, he met Gordon Troy while both he and Gordon were representing defendants in the case brought in the Southern District of New York by Pilates, Inc. against Current Concepts, Inc. (now Balanced Body, Inc.) and various Pilates trainers. Pilates, Inc. alleged infringement of what were then registered trademarks for the word PILATES. Gordon and I worked as co-counsel over the next five years and prevailed at trial, putting "Pilates" into the public domain.
Subsequently, Lawrence joined Gordon E. R. Troy, PC, where he
